Port Triggering Guide

Note: An added benefit of Port Triggering is you do not need to worry about ip addresses.

When using port triggering with applications that don't make outbound connections you can use my free
Port Triggering Initiator to make the connections to trigger the ports for you.

Step 1.

Open your favorite web browser and input your routers ip address in the address bar.
Please note that you must have the http:// in order to connect to your router/modem properly.

Step 2.

Put in your username and password, then click 'Log In'

If you don't know it you can check our list of default router and modem password list here.

If you have changed it and don't remember it you may have to reset your device to factory default using the reset button on most routers.

Step 3.

Wait for the page to load and click on "Advanced"

Now click on "Application"

Step 4.

Wait for the page to load and check "Enabled"

Give your entry a name in the "Name" field.

For "Trigger Port" enter in the port to be used as a trigger.
Example: 3000

Next choose your "Trigger Type"

In "Public Ports" enter the port to be forwarded.
Example: 4000

Next choose your "Public Type"

Click "Apply"

Repeat this steps for any more ports you want to be used as a trigger.

All Done!

For "Triggered Start Port" enter in the port to be used as a trigger.
Example: 3000

In "Trigger End Port" enter the port to be forwarded.
Example: 4000

Next choose your "Trigger Type"

Now for "Public Port" again enter the port to be used as a trigger.
Example: 3000

Next choose your "Public Type"

Be sure to check "Enable"

Repeat this steps for any more ports you want to be used as a trigger.

Click "Apply Changes"

Once logged into your router click on the "NAT" link on the left of the page.

Now when the page loads scroll down to "Virtual Server Setup".

For 'Rule Name' give your entry a name.

For 'Internal Server IP Address' put the local IP of the computer the port will be forwarded to.

For 'Protocol' select the protocol you want.

For 'External port' put in the port to be forwarded.
Example: 2100.

For 'Internal Port' put in the port to be forwarded.

Now click the 'Add' button

Repeat Step 5 to add more ports to the list.

Click the 'Save' button to save your settings.
