Wireless router fed from a wired router

Posted in

I need to have a modem hooked up to a wired router which will be connected to a desktop and a wireless router. What kind of settings do I need on the routers for them to work together and how do I change the settings on them.

Wired Router: BEFSR41 Ver 3
Wireless Router: WRT110

Multiple Routers

ok first read this simple little info on having more than 1 router. http://www.pcwintech.com/node/292

Now to hook up the cabling is simple. First the network cable from the modem going to your first router will plug into the Wan or Internet port of the 1st router. Then from there you will plug in another cable into any of the standard 4 ports on the first router, then you will plug the other end into the Wan or internet port of the 2nd router. Now you have a nice chain link. keep in mind routers work best if they are on different ip networks. Router 1 can be 192.168.1.1 and the 2nd router can be 192.168.2.1 but not 192.168.1.2. if both are on the same ip range they sometime fight each other and it wont work (This is the local IP and DHCP settings for each router, not their WAN address).

Then you can use the trick from the link about DMZ to get all the port forwarding working to just 1 router.

Give that a try, have any trouble let me know
